Last updated: 23 October 2026

AutoKey New Zealand (“AutoKey”, “we”, “us”) provides mobile car key, lockout and smart lock services in Auckland. We respect your privacy and handle personal information in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

1. Who we are

Peace Finder Ltd, trading as AutoKey New Zealand
350 Great North Road, Henderson, Auckland 0612
Phone: 0800 110 119 ยท Email: info@autokey.co.nz
Privacy Officer: Alex Li

2. What information we collect

  • When you ask for a quote or book a job: your name, phone number, email (if you give it), your vehicle’s registration, make, model and year, the suburb or location where the vehicle is, and details of the problem. You don’t need to show ID to get a quote.
  • “All keys lost” jobs: before we make a new key when all keys have been lost, our technician will check your driver licence in person and take a photo of it for our records. We never ask you to upload ID through our website. We keep this record to help prevent vehicle theft and so we can assist the Police if a vehicle-crime investigation arises.
  • When you contact us by phone, text, email or our website forms: the information you choose to give us.
  • When you use our website: basic technical information such as your browser, device and the pages you visit, collected through cookies and analytics tools (for example Google). This helps us understand how the site is used and does not identify you by name.
  • Photos of the job: our technicians may photograph the vehicle, key or work area to record the job.

3. How we use your information

  • To give you a quote and provide the service you asked for.
  • To contact you about your booking, quote or job.
  • To confirm your identity for “all keys lost” jobs, help prevent vehicle theft and assist the Police if needed.
  • For invoicing, warranty and our business records.
  • To improve our website and services.
  • Where the law requires us to.

We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.

4. Job photos and our “Our Jobs” case studies

We sometimes share real jobs on our website and social media so other drivers know what we can help with. When we do, we blur number plates, do not show customers’ faces or names, and only mention the suburb – never your street address. If you would prefer your job not to be featured, just tell us and we won’t use it.

5. Who we share information with

We only share your information when it is needed to run our business or the law requires it, for example with:

  • Our technicians who carry out your job.
  • Service providers that help us run our business, such as our website host and the tools we use for online forms, email and website analytics. Some of these providers may store information overseas; we only use reputable providers and take reasonable steps to make sure your information is protected.
  • The Police or other authorities where we are legally required to, or where we have reasonable grounds to believe a vehicle may not belong to the person requesting a key.
  • Our professional advisers (such as our accountant), if needed.

6. How we keep your information safe

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access, including secure website hosting, password protection and limiting access to staff who need it. Driver licence photos are not stored on our website; they are kept securely with access limited to authorised staff.

7. How long we keep it

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes above, or as required by law. In particular:

  • Quote requests that do not go ahead are kept for 12 months and then deleted.
  • Driver licence photos taken for “all keys lost” jobs are kept securely for 7 years (in line with our business records) and then deleted.
  • Invoices and other business records are kept for 7 years, as New Zealand tax law requires.

8. Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Contact our Privacy Officer using the details above – we will respond within 20 working days. If you are not happy with how we have handled your information, please talk to us first. You can also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

9. Cookies

Our website uses cookies to make the site work and to understand how visitors use it. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work, but some features may not.
